until a few weeks ago i’d never been to queensland. ever. family and friends have lived there but i’ve never been able to make the journey.
heard plenty of things about it though. a couple that spring to mind are that the weather is shockingly humid (which it was to a degree, nothing that was overwhelming fortunately) and that things grow big.
fruit.
spiders.
bats.
i never thought the _grass_ would be big.
when i went out into the back yard of my in-law’s house i wasn’t overwhelmed by the awesomeness of a trampoline that i could bounce about on. i wasn’t overwhelmed by the awesomeness of visiting a new place. i was overwhelmed by the size of the grass.
i decided to get a picture of the grass to show how big it was.

this didn’t quite grasp the concept i was going for so i used another approach. i took off my thongs and put them on the grass and photographed them. my feet wear a size 5 converse chuck taylor. this grass made my thongs look like miniatures.

to demonstrate they were human sized thongs and not barbie thongs i put my feet in them.

if this is what the humidity does to the grass i’m bloody glad i didn’t run into one of the spiders!
